The newest Mercy Ships vessel, the Global Mercy is the world’s largest purpose-built hospital ship.
It is currently being built within the Tianjin Xingang shipyard and will operate throughout the world in areas of extreme heat and prolonged sunshine.
The need to reduce the impact of glare, and make conditions onboard more comfortable for the Captain and crew is essential, so solar protection for the bridge windows is a critical requirement.
Our Client approached us following previous successes with our screens on other vessels and placed an order for SG Glider solar screens which is a range of retractable roller blinds containing solar film.
These made to measure bridge blinds were manufactured to specific requirements and shipped to China to keep the new build project on track.
In early October, Mercy Ships announced a first look at the construction of the world’s largest charity hospital ship which plans to sail to Africa in late 2021.
Once installed, SG Glider Solar Screens will dramatically reduce glare by up to 93% and reduce interior temperatures by up to 15°C.
Our screens will also improve onboard conditions and energy costs will be significantly reduced as the air conditioning system will not need to work so hard to cool extreme temperatures. This will also reduce the ships overall environmental impact.
