Global Mercy Gets The Royal Seal Of Approval

Solarglide help protect the crew of Mercy Ships newest floating hospital – The Global Mercy.

The Challenge

The newest Mercy Ship vessel, Global Mercy, the world’s largest purpose-built hospital ship was recently visited by Princess Anne.

The visit took place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, as the Princess, the Patron of Mercy Ships International, met with the ship’s medical volunteers and explored the vessel.

Built at the Tianjin Xingang shipyard, Global Mercy operates in areas of extreme heat and prolonged sunshine.

The Solution

To combat these issues, the owners of the ship approached Solarglide to supply the SG Glider solar screens which is a range of retractable roller blinds that contains solar film.

These made to measure bridge blinds were manufactured by Solarglide to specific requirements and shipped to China to be fitted.

Solarglide supplied 36 Cassetted solar screens with a double pulley mechanism. This resulted in improved navigational equipment screen visibility.

The Results

SG Glider Solar Screens reduce glare by up to 93% and reduce interior temperatures by up to 15°C.

The screens will also improve onboard conditions and energy costs will be significantly reduced as the air conditioning system will not need to work so hard to cool extreme temperatures. This will also reduce the ship’s overall environmental impact.
