Roman Blinds

Decorative Folding Blinds for Cruise, Ferry, Yacht and Commercial Ships

Originally invented by the Romans to shield homes from the dust kicked up by horses and carriages on the Roman roads (we didn’t know that either!), our Roman boat blinds are a stylish and functional way to dress your windows on board any yacht or ship.

Roman blinds are made up of one flat piece of fabric which gradually folds as the controls are pulled. The opening mechanism allows the fabric to form neat folds, while the fabric lays flat against the window when closed. Devilishly simple and exceptionally stylish.

While we specialise in large, motorised Roman blind systems for cruise ships and ferries, we also cater for smaller, manual projects too.

Solarglide specialise in motorised Roman blinds for cruise ships, yachts, narrowboats and boats, and come in premade formats or can be fully customised to your needs.

We’re proud of our strong relationships with UK and international fabric manufacturers and suppliers and our Roman blinds can be found on boats, cruise liners and yachts all over the world.

Choosing the perfect Roman blind fabric for your boat interior

It’s crucial, when choosing fabrics for Roman blinds, that the fabric isn’t too soft.

Soft, flowing fabric doesn’t fold well and can look untidy on the window.

But don’t worry, we have a wide range of suitable fabrics to help you make your choice (if the fabric hasn’t been specified by an interior design or isn’t part of the newbuild specification).

Some of our favourite fabrics for Roman blinds are Amante, Astaire, Raku and Santon.
