Solarglide transform their environmental policy and reduce plastic waste

In 2019 Solarglide decided to transform their environmental policy with the goal of ridding plastics while not compromising the safety of our goods as they travel the globe. Solarglide Limited use sugar cane shrink wrap as packaging, which ensures the contents are waterproofed, and fully biodegradable.

Changing the makeup of our packaging was a real turning point for the business and set us on our eco road trip – a trip that has no end. Since then, we have audited each aspect of the business – reducing our impact on the local and global environment. It’s amazing what you can achieve when the ideas start to flow. It’s also crucial that every team member contributes to these goals.

Our Managing Director, Paul Pringle says, “As a company we are always looking for ways to support the environment. We have made a good start but we feel that there are other aspects of the business that can be improved. We feel like we are heading in the right direction with the goal of being carbon neutral in 2025.”

Recycled products We have been working hard to swap out the materials that we use for recycled alternatives. Currently we have three ranges in our product collection, and we hope to increase this significantly over the coming years.

● Carnival fabric used in the manufacture of our Dimout and Blackout privacy blinds is made from recycled polyester yarns.

● Also, within our Dimout Screens collection, we offer an exclusive Dimout fabric made from 100% ocean plastics.

● Introduced in early 2023, we now offer pleated honeycomb fabrics made from recycled plastics.

Furthermore, any non-recyclable pleated fabrics have been withdrawn from our product offerings. Other environmental changes Along with our biodegradable packaging and recycled products, our engineers will be travelling around the UK in a Citroen e-despatch electric van to attend pickups, appointments, installations and surveys.
